In order to keep Centrex lines
free, your company may prefer
that users dial other extensions
using [Intercom] buttons.
A-2 Use with PBX or Centrex Systems
System with Centrex
extensions 101, 102, and
103 (lines 1, 2, and 3 on
the system)
All three lines are assigned to
the receptionist at extension
10. At extension 10, line 1
(Centrex extension 101) is set
to "immediate ring" and lines 2
and 3 (Centrex extensions 102
and 103) are set to "delayed
ring."
Line 2 is also assigned to
extension 11, and line 3 is
assigned to extension 12, each
set for "immediate ring" at
those extensions.
System telephones are labeled
with both the system and
Centrex extension numbers
(system extension 10 is labeled
"Ext. 10/Ctx. 101", system
extension 11 is labeled "Ext.
11/Ctx. 102", and system
extension 12 is labeled "Ext.
12/Ctx. 103").
Figure A-1 Example of a Centrex System Setup
Users can place inside calls in two ways: by pressing the [Intercom] buttons on
their phones and then dialing the system extension number, or by pressing an
outside line button and then dialing the Centrex extension number. For exam-
ple, extension 101 (system extension 10) can dial extension 102 (system exten-
sion 11 ) in two ways:
Pick up the handset, press [Intercom] , and then dial 11; or
Pick up the handset and dial 102.
To dial a number outside the Centrex system, the user dials the PBX dial-out
code followed by the outside number.
