Appendix A: Troubleshooting

Recovering from a Motion Fault

If you move the stage by hand or it is otherwise moved in some way other than by the scanner motor, a motion fault may
occur and the Console displays the message: "Critical Notice—A motion error has occurred. Power down the scanner and
rehome the stage."
This error does not indicate damage to the stage, but simply that the scanner may have lost track of the exact position of the
stage.
If the AutoLoader shuts down because of improperly prepared slides or improper use, you also may need to home the stage.
To recover from this error:
1.
Verify the magnification changer is completely pulled out. The scanner cannot start with the magnification changer
in. (See "Magnification Changer Troubleshooting" on page 53.)
2.
Turn the scanner off and back on: Press the main power switch on the back of the scanner to the Off position then
press it to the On position.
3.
Click the Service Manager icon in the Windows task bar, select Restart Services, and then select Restart
Controller Service. This restarts the Controller and also homes the AutoLoader and
