Chapter 7: Quality Control and Maintenance

Clean the Scanner

This section contains instructions on cleaning both external and internal scanner components. We recommend doing these
procedures every month.

Cleaning the Scanner Casing

Clean the outer casing of the scanner as needed by wiping it with a damp cloth and immediately drying it with a dry cloth.
Be sure to clean only the outside of the instrument.

Cleaning the Scanner Interior

In the unlikely event that slides have broken in the scanner, use the utmost care in removing glass shards and biological
material. Turn off power to the scanner and unplug the power cord before placing your hands inside the scanner. Using
proper safety protection and procedures, pick up and wipe up the visible pieces of any broken slides. Please contact Leica
Biosystems Technical Services for advice before operating the scanner.

Cleaning the Slide Tray on the Stage

Gently wipe the slide tray from the top to the bottom with a lint-free tissue. After initial wipe down, final polishing can be
done using a micro fiber cloth. Only if necessary, use a gentle solvent such as denatured alcohol to remove any remaining
residue.

Cleaning the AutoLoader

It is important to keep the AutoLoader rack, the AutoLoader compartment, and the scanning stage slot (the area on the
scanning stage onto which the AutoLoader places the slide) clean at all times. Prior to each AutoLoader run please inspect
the condition of these parts and if required, clean them with a cotton swab that has been soaked in a cleaning solvent such
as denatured alcohol. To clean the AutoLoader carousel cover and access door, use water and a mild detergent.
