MLA System

Rear Panel Functions

Mains Switch
Turns the unit's mains supply off and on.
Mains Inlet
Connection to the Merlin is via a captive Mains cable supplied fitted with a UK 13A mains plug.

Ethernet

The primary PC connection is via a standard RJ45 Ethernet port. This can be directly to a PC for one to one
communication or via a wired or wireless Ethernet Hub where multiple Merlin's are used in a system.

U-NET

A pair of U-Net ports are fitted, each using the Neutrik Ethercon robust RJ45 connector to ensure reliable
and rugged network connection
U-Net Activity
A pair of LEDs indicate data activity on the two U-Net ports
Indicators
Outputs 1-10
Output connections are available on ten electronically balanced male XLR's. When AES/EBU outputs are
selected via the one screen menu, output connectors are on 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 are no longer
used as AES is two channel.
Inputs 1-4
Input connections are available on four electronically balanced female XLR's. When AES/EBU inputs are
selected via the on screen menu, inputs are on 1 and 3. 2 and 4 are no longer used.

Connections

Mains

The Merlin has a universal PSU suitable for direct connection to any mains voltage anywhere in the world. It is supplied fitted
with a standard UK 13A mains plug. For other territories a suitable approved mains adaptor must be used to suit the local mains
connector. Alternatively the UK plug may be removed and a suitable mains connector wired in its place. Wiring connections are
as follows;-
Brown
Live
Blue
Neutral
Green / Yellow
Earth
The Merlin MUST be disconnected from mains before the mains plug is replaced. Replacing the plug should only be undertaken
by a suitably qualified electrical engineer.
Ethernet
The Ethernet connection is a standard 100BASE-T protocol computer network. Standard readily available CAT5 patch cables fitted
with RJ45 connections should be used to connect between the Merlin Ethernet port and either directly to a PC or to an Ethernet
