Classification

Classification is used to classify packets into classes based on various fields in the packet
header. A policy map contains one or more classes, which in turn, can have multiple
classification rules. A policy map represents the complete set of classification rules that can
be associated with one/more interfaces. A class represents a set of classification rules which
can be associated with same set of actions. A packet is said to be classified into a class if it
matches any of the classification rules in that class. The actions associated with the class will
be applied for all packets that are classified into the class. The actions associated with a class
can be CoS marking/re-marking, policing and policy based routing.
The show qos module policy-map command shows the policy-maps configured, the
class-maps configured within the policy-map, the matching rules configured for each class-
map, accounting status, different actions that are configured for each class-map, the sequence
number of the class within the policy-map, and interface(s) the policy-map is servicing.
