Upon receipt, thoroughly inspect the shipment. If any signs of damage or loss are
detected, enter details on the freight bill or receipt. Ensure that the carrier's agent
acknowledges the damage report by signing the damage detail report. Failure to
follow this procedure may result in claim refusal by the carrier. If it is necessary
to file a claim, obtain the necessary forms from the carrier.
A claim for concealed damage must be filed within 48 hours of delivery. As soon
as the damage is discovered, request an inspection by the carrier. Keep all
cartons, packing materials and paperwork. The carrier furnishes an inspection
report and the necessary forms to filing concealed damage claims, as the damage
is the responsibility of the carrier.
