CamDisc HNVR Product Guide
FIFO
CamDisc HNVR uses FIFO (First In First Out) for recording. The oldest images or events will be overwritten
with new recordings after a certain period of time. Hard disk partitioning into camera tracks prevents recorded
images from being overwritten by data from other cameras.
Record preview images
When accessing the image archiving device remotely over a low bandwidth connection, low-resolution
preview pictures (256 x 128 pixels) can be stored in the archive. These preview pictures can be used to view
the recorded pictures more quickly during remote access. When preview pictures are saved during recording,
recording speed is slowed down by about 20%. Recording duration is reduced by approximately 10%, as
additional storage space is required for preview images.
Overwrite protection
Activating overwrite protection ensures that existing recordings are never deleted automatically. Individual
camera tracks must be released before overwrite. An individual storage warning threshold can be defined for
each track. Reaching the threshold warning limit (to be set in percentiles) triggers the CamDisc HNVR logfile
LED to illuminate and a logfile entry to be written. The threshold warning limit can be reported by relay as well,
depending on device configuration. For remote evaluation with CamControl LITE or CamControl PRO
software a message is displayed that only dedicated image export or switching removable hard disks will
ensure permanent image storage.
Report period less than [] days
This option allows the device to issue a warning (Logfile LED, error relay, online evaluation, logfile) if the
specified recording duration for an individual track cannot be maintained any longer. CamDisc HNVR uses the
previous recordings as a basis for calculation, extrapolating from an assumed regular data volume. Based on
the quantity of data saved on the hard disk and the previously recorded time period, an estimate is made of
how long (in days) the available storage space would last. If this period is less than the set value, the error
relay can be activated, for example.
Delete all pictures older than [] days
If special requirements for the period of image storage must be complied with, for example for reasons of data
privacy, a maximum age can be specified for archive images per camera track. Any older images will then be
deleted automatically.

Recording modes

In addition to specifying individual track size, the recording mode must be specified individually for each
camera as well. The basic CamDisc HNVR distinction is between permanent (long-term) recording and event
triggered recording. Both modes can be set for the same camera. Switching between modes is controlled by
an integrated timer module. The following illustration shows timer control for camera 1.
