When the prompt screen is displayed, type in the following command to start
backup:
# ufsdump 0ucf/dev/rmt/0u / <Return>
When the following message is displayed, the backup was successful.
DUMP: XXXXXXXXX blocks ( XXXXX.XX MB) on 1 volume at XXXX KB/sec
DUMP: DUMP IS DONE

Press the eject switch of the DAT unit to remove the data cassette.
After removing the data cassette, set the write-protection tab of the cassette to the
write-protected position.

Restart the system.
# /usr/sbin/shutdown -g0 -y -i6 <Return>

Restoring the SMC's system disk

Of the two backup procedures of the system disk explained in Section 8.2.1, "Backing
up the SMC's system disk", if the procedure using the dd command has been used for
backup, the system disk must also be restored by using the dd command. Similarly, if
the procedure using the ufsdump command has been used for backup, the system disk
must also be restored by using the ufsrestore command.
To restore the system disk, the following items must be prepared:
l When using the dd command
- The DAT data cassette that has been used to back up the system disk (CT12000
or CT20000)
- SOLARIS8TM SOFTWARE (1 OF 2) CD-ROM or Solaris9TM Software (1 of
2) CD-ROM
l When using the ufsdump command
- The DAT data cassette that has been used to back up the system disk (CT12000
or CT20000)
- SOLARIS8TM INSTALLATION CD-ROM or Solaris9TM Installation CD-
ROM
If the disk mirroring software is used to implement mirroring the disk, follow the
procedure given in the manual supplied with the disk mirroring software.
