- When "local-mac-address?" is "true"
When a PCI card is added, connection to multiple ports within the same LAN
segment is possible. On the other hand, on-board LAN ports in a partition
cannot be connected to other ports in the same segment, even if "local-mac-
address?" is set to "true".
For details, contact a certified service engineer.
l For information about the operation of the enhancement PCI cards, follow the
instructions in the document supplied with the PCI cards.
E.1.4

On-board serial interface

Each system board has two on-board serial interface ports (RS232C).
Each partition uses a serial interface port for the console path. Use the system board's
RS232C port, which is connected to the system disk, as the console path. The console
path can be set from the OBP environment variables (tty-conspath, tty-sub-conspath).
If these values are not set manually, use the lowest numbered slot port on the system
boards that constitute the partition. If the port set to tty-conspath does not exist when
starting up the partition, the port set to tty-sub-conspath is allocated; if neither port
exists, no value is applied.
Each PCI/disk box has two serial ports, and each system board can be expanded to up
to four ports. Up to five serial ports can be used in each partition. The ports that are
not used for console paths can be used to connect general-purpose devices.
E.1.5

Multiport console connection unit

This section describes how to connect the SMC and the multiport console connection
unit.
To use the console function for the partitions, connect the RS232C port of the system
board with the SMC through the multiport console connection unit. The multiport
console connection unit and the SMC can be connected through the system control
LAN. Depending on the number of partitions and the interconnection method used,
additional multiport console connection units and RS232C cabling may be required.
