The following sections explain the PCI hot plug.
C.4.1
Overview of PCI hot plug
The PRIMEPOWER900 supports the PCI hot plug, which enables a PCI adapter to be
added (connected) to and deleted (disconnected) from the Solaris

A faulty PCI adapter can be removed, and a new one added.
l Non-redundant configuration
Any job that uses the target adapter must be stopped.
l Redundant configuration
The target adapter can be replaced without stopping the job.
• Hot system expansion
PCI cards can be added to handle an increase in jobs while the system is running.
C.4.2
Insertion and extraction of PCI cards
PCI cards must be inserted and extracted by certified service engineers.
l For information about the workflow when the PCI hot plug is used, and the
procedure for replacement and expansion, refer to the "PCI Hot Plug User's Guide
I/O device edition".
