INFORMATION
The daily duration of use and period of application are generally determined by the physi
cian.
The initial fitting and application of the product must be carried out by qualified personnel
according to the instructions of the treating physician.
Instruct the patient in the handling and care of the product.
Instruct the patient to see a physician immediately if any exceptional changes are noted (e.g.
worsening of the complaint).
5.1 Size Selection
1) Measure the circumference of the thigh 15 cm above the centre of the patella.
2) Measure the circumference of the lower leg 15 cm below the centre of the patella.
3) Determine the size of the orthosis (see size chart).
5.2 Adaptation
CAUTION
Incorrect or excessively tight application
Risk of local pressure and constriction of blood vessels and nerves due to improper or excess
ively tight application
Ensure that the orthosis is applied properly and fits correctly.
1) Donning: Hold the orthosis on both sides with the donning loops (1) and pull it over the knee
until the patella cutout is centred on the patella.
2) Positioning (see fig. 2): Place the patient's knee in a 20°-30° flexion position. Grasp the
patella carefully and guide the patella support (2) to the outer edge of the patella.
3) Clasping (see fig. 3): Hook the upper ratchet hook (3.1), with slight tension applied to the
spring elements (4), onto the ratchet strap (5.1). Hook the lower ratchet hook (3.2), with slight
tension applied to the spring elements (4), onto the ratchet strap (5.2).
INFORMATION: The maximum pre-tension is specified by a mark on the ratchet hook.
Apply the maximum amount of pre-tension by aligning the mark with the splint (10).
→ The patella support (2) lies against the outer edge of the patella.
4) Fastening (see fig. 4): The patella support is held in the upper and lower guide channels (8)
by the hook and loop guides (9). The hook and loop guides can be readjusted if necessary.
5) Functional check (see fig. 5): Carefully flex the knee to the degree approved by the attend
ing physician and extend it to check that the orthosis is working optimally and is positioned
properly.
→ Does it require adjustment? See 6 "Readjustment"
→ Is the orthosis positioned properly? See 7 "Shorten"
