Note:
As a guide to dose, the top edge of the metal cap on the tamper should be level with
the top of the filter basket AFTER the coffee has been tamped. This will minimise under
or over dosing the coffee.
TIP:
After usage, you may store the tamper below the group head. For this, at the left
side of the group head there is an opening where the tamper will be held in place via
a magnet.
4. If required, use the Razor™ precision tool for trimming the coffee powder to the cor-
rect level for a consistent extraction (see below: >Trimming the Dose<).
5. Thoroughly wipe excess coffee from the rim of the filter basket to ensure that a proper
seal in the group head is achieved.

TRIMMING THE DOSE

The Razor™ precision dose trimming tool allows you to trim the puck of coffee powder
to the correct level for a consistent extraction.
Fill the portafilter with freshly ground coffee and tamp down applying 15-20kg of pres-
sure.
Insert the Razor™ precision tool into the filter basket until its shoulders rest on the rim of
the filter basket. The blade of the dosing tool should penetrate the surface of the tamped
coffee a little.
Rotate the Razor™ precision tool back and forth while holding the portafilter on an angle
over a bowl. This way, trim off excess coffee. Thereafter, your coffee filter basket is filled
properly with the correct amount of coffee powder.

PREPARING THE GROUP HEAD

WARNING:
Hot steam and water will escape from the group head during operati-
on. Do not hold your hand or any other part of your body under or directly near the
group head while the appliance is switched on.
Before placing the portafilter into the group head, for purging run a short flow of water
through the group head.
6. Ensure that the control dial is turned to the central standby position. Then plug in
the appliance and press the POWER button to switch on the appliance. A pumping
noise will be heard and the POWER button will be flashing until the appropriate
temperature is reached. The POWER and SELECT buttons and the STEAM indicator
will be illuminated continuously, when the machine is ready for operation.
