Installing PCIe adapters in the 8348-21C

Learn how to install Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) Express (PCIe) adapters in the IBM Power
System S812LC (8348-21C).
Before you begin
Power off the system and place it in the service position. For instructions, see "Preparing the system to
remove and replace internal parts in the 8348-21C" on page 59.
About this task
See "PCIe adapter placement rules and slot priorities for the 8348-21C" on page 23 for information and
capabilities of the PCIe slots.
Attention: For safety and airflow purposes, if you remove parts from the system, you must ensure that
PCIe tailstock fillers are present.
Procedure
1. Ensure that you have the electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap attached. If not, attach it now.
2. Pick the correct slot for the PCIe adapter. See Figure 22.

3. Remove the retaining screw (A) and remove the PCIe slot cover (B). See Figure 23 on page 26. Keep
the retaining screw.
