The main reason for using the ETC system is to improve driveability.
Based on vehicle speed, throttle response to accelerator pedal movement is adjusted by the PCM.
– When the driver presses the accelerator pedal, three Accelerator Pedal Position Sensors (APPS) measure
pedal movement and provide an output voltage to the PCM.
– Multiple APPS are built into the system as a safety feature.
– The throttle pedal has two return springs to ensure that the accelerator pedal is always returned to the ''zero''
position when released.
– Smallest closed pedal position (APPS_RATCH) is continuously learned for each sensor.
– Pulling up on the accelerator pedal with the ignition on causes the PCM to learn a low pedal ratch value. The
PCM detects a small amount of pedal travel in the at rest position but no failure mode will occur.
