TPMS Warning System
Messages
WARNING — TIRE VERY LOW
CHECK TIRE PRESSURE
TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR FAULT
TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR FAULT
The four possible TPMS warning messages and their possible causes are listed in the table above.
NOTE: Following a repair, extinguish the warning lamp by either driving the vehicle over 20 mph (32 kph) or let
it sit for approximately one hour.

LESSON 4: ELECTRICAL
Conditions
One or more tires has very low pressure. When this
warning message is displayed, a warning chime
sounds and a telltale lights continuously, reminding
the driver to stop the vehicle as soon as safely
possible and check the tires for correct pressure,
leaks and damage. For Explorer/Mountaineer this
means at least one tire is below 25 psi.
Any of the tire pressures are high or low. When
this warning message is displayed, a warning chime
sounds and a telltale lights continuously, reminding

means at least one tire is below 30 psi.
One or more tire pressure sensors are
malfunctioning.
TPMS telltale flashes for 20 seconds then goes out.
The message center is not configured correctly.
All four wheel sensors have failed.
All four wheel sensors are incorrectly trained.
All four wheel sensors are missing.
Internal module fault.
TPMS telltale flashes for 20 seconds then goes out.
All of the listed causes trigger a telltale as well as
a message.
