LESSON 3: POWERTRAIN
New PCM Contains Several New Processors
The Black Oak Power PC is the main microprocessor which contains engine and transmission control logic
including the desired throttle angle and OBD-II logic.
The PCM includes the following new functions:
– Independent Plausibility Check (IPC).
– The IPC resides in the Black Oak Power PC and checks powertrain torque output versus driver demand
over the full range of driver demand.
– E-Quizzer.
– The E-Quizzer monitors the ''health'' of the PCM.
– When driver demand is at idle, the E-Quizzer checks that the throttle plate is at idle.
– The Throttle Plate Position Controller (TPPC) is a separate microprocessor within the PCM.
– The TPPC commands the throttle plate motor and monitors TP1 and TP2.
