Quick Assist Braking (With Stability Assist)
The Explorer and Mountaineer use a software program called Quick Assist to provide a faster introduction of
brake boost during emergency stops. Components of the standard vacuum assist work with the Pedal Travel
Sensor (PTS), brake pressure transducers, active booster solenoid and release switch to accomplish this function.
The release switch is located in the power brake booster. The stability assist module receives a signal from the
release switch that an emergency braking application has terminated. The stability assist module de-energizes
the active booster solenoid, and maximum brake assist is turned off. The active booster solenoid valve is
located in the power brake booster. The active booster solenoid valve admits atmospheric pressure to the driver
side of the booster chamber to enable maximum brake assist when Quick Assist is activated. The stability
assist module actuates the active booster solenoid valve.
