CHECKING DRIVE CHAIN SLACK

Turn the wheel several times to locate the tightest por-
tion of the chain. Check and/or adjust the chain when it
is taut to the maximum extent possible.
To check chain slack, the vehicle must be upright, and there
should be nobody sitting on it. Check slack in the position shown
in the illustration. Standard vertical movement is approximately
25-40 mm. If movement is not as prescribed, adjust tightness of
chain.

To adjust chain slack, loosen the wheel fixing nut, B, locknut C
and turn adjusting screw V. After adjusting, tighten the locknut,C,
and bolt, B.
This operation must be performed on both sides of the
rear fork; adjustment must be identical on both sides;
to obtain this condition, refer to scale G located on the
fork.
An excessively taut chain will put the engine and drive
components under excessive strain; maintain chain
tightness within the specified limits.
Whilst carrying out these adjustments, hold the vehicle
firmly in place, otherwise it will fall over.
