  • Page 14: Introduction

INTRODUCTION Congratulations! The facsimile machine that you have purchased will enable you to communicate with a vast number of correspondents all over the world. The machine in your possession is MULTIFUNCTIONAL. This means that, as well as being able to send and receive documents quickly and easily using its wide range of facsimile features, you can connect it to a personal computer and use it as a scanner , when you need to capture pictures, a printer , when you have to print documents on the PC and enables you to send and receive documents on a personal computer (for more detailed information, contact your local dealer).

  • Page 33: Theory Of Operation

THEORY OF OPERATION A facsimile machine enables an exact copy of a document to be produced at a remote location. It incorporates three main devices: a scanner This is the device that optically scans the page containing data, text and/or images, to be transmitted.
  • Page 34: Methods Of Making A Call (Dialling)

METHODS OF MAKING A CALL (DIALLING) One of the essential operations involved in sending a document is dialling the correspondent's facsimile number. During this preliminary phase, the facsimile machine connects to the telephone line and dials the number you enter. Your device can store a large number of fax and telephone numbers and associate additional information with them, thus creating an electronic data book which not only saves you time but eliminates the risk of making dialling errors.
  • Page 35: Methods Of Transmission

Connecting to an external line If you press the EXT./PAUSE key before dialling the number, you connect to an external telephone line using the method set in the DIAL TYPE installation parameter (Dial number, Flash, Earth). This function is used when the facsimile machine is connected to a private branch exchange.

The answering device waits for a given number of rings and then answers by playing the prerecorded message. It may then either record the message left by the caller or prepare for automatic fax reception The procedures, page 72 .
