Removal
26 Turn the steering wheel as necessary
to access the left and right front retaining
screws.

and undo the right-hand retaining screw

panel around the ignition switch
27 Carefully prise off the screw trim cap and
undo the front retaining screw now exposed
(see illustration). Repeat this procedure on
the other side of the shroud.
28 Undo the lower shroud lower retaining
screw (see illustration).

26.32 Unclip the upper shroud from the
instrument panel and remove it from the car

29 Carefully prise free the circular trim panel
around the ignition switch (see illustration).
30 Lift up the upper column shroud and undo
the two screws securing the lower shroud to
the steering column (see illustrations).
31 Remove the lower shroud from the
steering column (see illustration).
32 Unclip the upper shroud from the
instrument panel and remove it from the car
(see illustration).
Refitting
33 Refitting is a reversal of removal.
Complete facia assembly
Note: This is an involved operation entailing
the removal of numerous components and
assemblies, and the disconnection of a
multitude of wiring connectors. Make notes
on the location of all disconnected wiring,
or attach labels to the connectors, to avoid
confusion when refitting.
Removal
34 Disconnect the battery negative terminal
(refer to Disconnecting the battery in the
Reference Chapter).
35 Remove the A-pillar trim panels on both
sides as described in Section 24.
36 Remove the side sill front trim panel on
both sides as described in Section 24.
37 Remove the centre console as described
in Section 25.
38 Remove the steering wheel as described
in Chapter 10.
39 Remove the following facia panels as
described previously in this Section:
a) Glovebox.
b) Gear lever console.
c) Facia upper and lower centre panels.
d) Driver's side lower trim panel.
e) Steering column shrouds.
40 Remove the following components as
described in Chapter 12:
a) Steering column electronics module.
b) Instrument panel.
c) Information display.
d) Passenger's airbag.
e) Lighting switch assembly.
41 Remove the steering column as described
in Chapter 1

42 Undo the eight screws ·Securing the gear
lever console retaining frame to the facia. Lift
