in Section 6. Refill the transmission with the
specified grade of oil given in Lubricants and
fluids, until it reaches the bottom of the level
plug aperture. Allow any excess oil to drain,
then refit and tighten the level plug to the
specified torque.
10 Refit the reversing light switch with
reference to Section
6,
then lower the vehicle
to the ground.

Note: A new transmission oil drain plug will be
required.
Draining
11 Wipe clean the area around the drain plug,
located on the lower left-hand side of the
differential housing, and position a suitable
container under the plug.
12 Undo the drain plug and allow the oil to
drain.
13 Once the oil has finished draining, fit the
new drain plug and tighten the plug to the
specified torque.
Refilling
14 The transmission is refilled via the oil filler
plug on the top of the casing (see illustration).
To gain access to the plug, remove the battery
and battery tray as described in Chapter 5A.
15 Wipe clean the area around the plug and
unscrew it. Refill the transmission with exactly
2.2 litres of the specified grade of oil given in
Lubricants and fluids, then refit and tighten
the oil filler plug to the specified torque (see
illustration).
16 Where applicable, refit the engine

undertray, then lower the vehicle to the

17 Refit the battery tray and battery as
described in Chapter 5A.
Note: A 5 mm drill or metal rod will be required
to carry out this procedure.
1 Adjustment of the gearchange mechanism
should only be needed if any part of the
mechanism has been disconnected or
removed. Adjustment is carried out at the
clamping pieces located at the gear lever
end of the each selector cable, with the
transmission and gear lever set and locked in
the neutral position.
2 Disconnect the battery negative terminal

3.6 Release the gear lever gaiter from the
trim panel and remove the panel

2.15 Use a graduated container to fill the
transmission with the specified quantity of
oil - M32 transmission
(refer to Disconnecting the battery in the
Reference Chapter).
3 Remove the centre console as described in
Chapter 11
4 Remove the ashtray insert then unclip the
ashtray housing from the base of the facia
(see illustration).

Undo the two gear lever gaiter trim panel
retaining screws, then lift the panel up at the
rear and disengage it from the facia at the
front (see illustrations).
6 Release the gear lever gaiter from the trim
panel and remove the panel (see illustration).
7 Unscrew the two quick-release catches
and remove the lower facia panel on the
passenger's side (see illustrations). Remove
the lower facia panel on the driver's side in the
same way.
8 Release the retaining clips (three on each
panel) and remove the footwell trim panels on
