4) Switch on the air conditioning and let
it run for at least 2 minutes without
interruption at engine speed under
1500rpm.
Evaporator

Removal of the evaporator entails
extensive dismantling of the vehicle interior
in the area of the facia, drilling out structural
rivets and physically deforming the facia
structural panels. For this reason, removal
and refitting of the evaporator is considered
beyond the scope of the DIY enthusiast and
should be entrusted to a Vauxhall/Opel dealer.

Disconnect the battery negative terminal
(refer to Disconnecting the battery in the
Reference Chapter).

Apply the handbrake, then jack up the
front of the vehicle and support it on axle
stands (see Jacking and vehicle support).

Remove the front bumper as described in
Chapter 11.

Unclip the relays, then release the cable
ties securing the wiring harness to the auxiliary
cooling fan housing (see illustration).
17 Release and disconnect the wiring harness
connector at the base of the fan housing.

Undo the two upper retaining nuts,
then lift the fan and housing up and off the
condenser (see illustration). Remove the fan
and housing from under the car.
Refitting
19 Refitting is the reverse of removal.

Have the refrigerant discharged at a
dealer service department or an automotive
air conditioning repair facility.

Disconnect the battery negative terminal

Remove the front bumper as described in
Chapter 11.

Remove the auxiliary cooling fan (where
fitted) as described previously in this Section.

Undo the retaining bolts and disconnect
the upper and lower refrigerant pipe connector
blocks from the right-hand side of the condenser
(see illustrations).
Discard the seals - new ones
must be used when refitting. Suitably cap the
open fittings immediately to keep moisture and
contamination out of the system.

lift the fan and housing up
and off the condenser

(arrowed) and disconnect the refrigerant
pipe connector blocks from the condenser

Disconnect the wiring connector from the
pressure sensor on the right-hand side of the
condenser.

Undo the four bolts securing the con-
denser to the radiator (see illustrations
3.11 a
and 3.11 b).
Carefully lower the condenser
and remove it from under the car.
Refitting

Refitting is the reverse of removal ensuring
that all disturbed pipe seals are renewed.

Have the system evacuated, charged and
leak-tested by the specialist who discharged
it.
