(arrowed)
Throttle housing
4 Remove the plastic cover over the top of
the engine.
5 Slacken the two retaining clips and
disconnect the charge air hose from the
intercooler and throttle housing.
6 Undo the two bolts and remove the charge
air pipe elbow from the throttle housing.
Recover the seal.
7 On SOHC (Z19DT and DTL) engines, undo
the four bolts and disconnect the metal
EGR pipe from the EGR valve and throttle
housing, noting its correct fitted position (see
illustration). Recover the two gaskets.
8 Undo the three retaining bolts and remove
the throttle housing from the intake manifold.
Note the location of any wiring harness support
brackets also secured by the retaining bolts.
9 Refitting is a reversal of removal, but
thoroughly clean the mating faces and use a
new gasket/seal and new EGR pipe gaskets.
Tighten the throttle housing retaining bolts
securely.
Crankshaft speed/
position sensor
10 The sensor is located at the rear of the
cylinder block, below the starter motor (see
illustration). To gain access, firmly apply the
handbrake, then jack up the front of the car
and support it securely on axle stands (see
Jacking and vehicle support).
11 Undo the retaining bolts and plastic rivets
and remove the engine undertray.
12 Wipe clean the area around the crankshaft
sensor then disconnect the wiring connector.
13 Slacken and remove the retaining bolt and

11.10 The crankshaft speed/position
sensor (arrowed) is located below the
starter motor
remove the sensor from the cylinder block.
Recover the sealing ring.
14 Refitting is the reverse of removal, using a
new sealing ring. Tighten the sensor retaining
bolt to the specified torque.
Camshaft position sensor
SOHC (Z19DT and DTL) engines
15 The camshaft sensor is located at the
right-hand end of the cylinder head, behind
the camshaft sprocket.
16 Remove the timing belt and camshaft
sprocket as described in Chapter 2C.
17 Undo the two bolts securing the camshaft
sensor bracket to the cylinder head.
18 Disconnect the sensor wiring connector,
undo the two bolts and remove the sensor.
19 Refit the sensor using the reverse of
removal, tightening the retaining bolts to the
specified torque. Refit the camshaft sprocket
and timing belt as described in Chapter 2C.
DOHC (Z19DTH) engines
20 The camshaft sensor is located at the
right-hand end of the camshaft housing (see
illustration). To gain access, remove the
plastic cover over the top of the engine.
21 Wipe clean the area around the camshaft
sensor then disconnect the wiring connector.
Unclip the wiring harness from the support
bracket.
22 Slacken and remove the retaining bolt and
remove the sensor from the camshaft cover.
Recover the sealing ring.
23 Refitting is the reverse of removal, using a
new sealing ring. Tighten the sensor retaining
bolt to the specified torque.

Coolant temperature sensor
24 Refer to the procedures contained in
Chapter 3.
Charge (boost) pressure sensor
25 Remove the windscreen cowl panel as
described in Chapter 11.
26 Remove the plastic cover over the top of
the engine.
27 Disconnect the wiring connector from the
charge pressure sensor located in the centre
of the intake manifold (see illustration).
28 Slacken and remove the retaining bolt and
remove the sensor from the manifold. Recover
the sealing ring.
29 Refitting is the reverse of removal, using a
new sealing ring. Tighten the sensor retaining
bolt to the specified torque.
Fuel pressure regulator
30 Disconnect the battery negative terminal
(refer to Disconnecting the battery in the
Reference Chapter).
31 Remove the plastic cover over the top of
the engine.
32 On SOHC (Z19DT and DTL) engines,
remove the fuel rail as described in Section 13.
33 On DOHC (219DTH) engines, disconnect
the wiring connector from the fuel pressure
regulator (see illustration).
34 Remove the regulator from the fuel rail by
unscrewing the inner nut (nearest the fuel rail)
while counter-holding the regulator body with
a second spanner. Be prepared for some loss
of fuel.
35 Refitting is the reverse of removal, tight-
ening the regulator to the specified torque.
Fuel pressure sensor
Note: On later models, the fuel pressure
sensor
is
incorporated in the high-pressure
fuel pump and a separate sensor on the fuel
rail is not fitted.
36 Disconnect the battery negative terminal
(refer to Disconnecting the battery in the
Reference Chapter).
37 Remove the plastic cover over the top of
the engine.
38 Disconnect the wiring connector at the
fuel pressure sensor (see illustration).
39 Unscrew the sensor and remove it from
the fuel rail. Be prepared for some loss of fuel.
40 Refitting is the reverse of removal,
