4.2a Unclip the ABS wheel speed sensor
wiring guide from the hydraulic hose ...
hydraulic hose from the suspension strut (see
illustrations).
3 On models without a front brake pad wear
indicator, depress the retaining tab and release
the ABS wheel speed sensor wiring connector
from the suspension strut bracket. Push the
locking tab downward and disconnect the
wheel speed sensor wiring from the connector
(see illustrations 2.3a and 2.3b).
4 On models with a front brake pad wear
indicator depress the locking tab and release
the wiring connector from the suspension
strut. Slide the locking bar on the connector
downward, then hold the upper part of the
connector and twist the lower part to open
the connector. Disconnect the ABS wheel
speed sensor wire from the connector and
also disconnect the brake pad wear warning
indicator wire (see illustrations 2.4a to 2.4d).

6 Mark the position of the suspension strut on
the swivel hub by drawing around the heads of
the two retaining bolts. Note: This is important
to maintain the camber setting.
7 Slacken and remove the two nuts and bolts
securing the suspension strut to the swivel
hub, noting that new nuts and bolts will be
required for refitting. Disengage the top of the
swivel hub from the strut (see illustrations).
8 To gain access to the strut upper mounting,
remove the windscreen cowl panel as
described in Chapter 11.
9 Engage the help of an assistant to support
the strut beneath the front wing. From within
the engine compartment, prise apart the two

Overhaul
Note 1:
A spring compressor tool will be
required for this operation. Before overhaul,
mark the position of each component in
relationship with each other for reassembly.
Note 2:
A new piston rod nut will be required
for reassembly.

With the suspension strut resting on
a bench, or clamped in a vice, fit a spring
compressor tool, and compress the coil spring
to relieve the pressure on the spring seats
{see illustration).
