Refitting
15 Refitting is a reversal of removal.
Mixed air valve servo motor
Removal
16 Remove the glovebox and the gear lever
console as described in Chapter
11.
17 Disconnect the wiring connector, then
undo the three bolts and remove the servo
motor from the side of the air distribution
housing (see illustration).
Refitting
18 Refitting is a reversal of removal.
Heater matrix
Removal
19 Drain the cooling system as described in
Chapter 1A or 18.
20 Remove the glovebox and the gear lever
console as described in Chapter
11.
21 Release the quick-release connectors
by sliding them forward, and disconnect the
two heater hoses from the heater matrix pipe
stubs (see illustration).
22 Undo the two bolts securing the conden-
sation drain tube to the engine compartment
bulkhead.
23 Extract the eight securing clips and
remove the lower cover from the air distribution
housing {see illustration).
24 Be prepared for coolant spillage as the
matrix is removed and place some cloths or
absorbent material over the carpet.
25 Undo the two clamps and release the
heater pipes from the matrix. Pull the heater
matrix from its location and remove it from the
car (see illustration).
Refitting
26 Refitting is a reversal of removal, bearing
in mind the following:
a) Push the heater hoses back onto the
matrix pipe stubs, ensuring that the
quick-release connectors securely lock
the hoses in position.
b) Refill the cooling system as described in
Chapter 1 A or 1 B.
Heater control assembly
Removal
27 Remove the radio/CD player as described
in Chapter
12.
28 Lift up the two upper retaining catches
and withdraw the heater control assembly
from the facia. Disconnect the two wiring
connectors and remove the unit from the car
(see illustrations).
Refitting
29 Refitting is a reversal of removal.
Air distribution housing
Note: On models with air conditioning, it is
not possible to remove the air distribution
housing without opening the refrigerant circuit
(see Sections 10 and 11). Have the refrigerant

9.23 Extract the securing clips and remove
the lower cover from the air distribution
housing
discharged at a dealer service department or
an automotive air conditioning repair facility
before proceeding.
Removal
30 Drain the cooling system as described in
Chapter 1 A or 18.
31 Remove the windscreen cowl panel as
described in Chapter
11.
32 On diesel engine models, undo the three
bolts and release the fuel filter crash box from
the engine compartment bulkhead.
33 On models with air conditioning, undo
the bolt securing the refrigerant pipe block
connection to the expansion valve and
withdraw the refrigerant pipes from the valve
(see illustration). Note that new seals for the
refrigerant pipes will be required for refitting.
Suitably plug or cover the disconnected pipes.
34 Refit the bolt used to secure the refrigerant
pipe block connection to the expansion valve
and draw off the expansion valve.

9.25 Pull the heater matrix from its
location and remove it from the car
35 Remove the expansion valve retaining
plate.
36 Release the quick-release connectors
by sliding them forward, and disconnect the
two 'heater hoses from the heater matrix pipe
stubs (see illustration 9.21).
