2.6 Detecting Jams

2.6.1 Detecting Jams (Finisher Unit)

0009-2524
The following sensors are used to detect the presence of paper and to determine that paper
is delivered properly.
- Inlet sensor (PI103)
- Delivery sensor (PI104)
- Escape tray path sensor (PI118)
A jam is identified by checking whether paper is present at each sensor at the timing
programmed in the memory of the microcomputer (CPU) on the finisher controller PCB.
When the CPU identifies a jam, it suspends the finisher's delivery operation and informs the
host machine DC controller of the presence of a jam. When all doors are closed after the
paper jam is removed, the finisher checks whether paper is detected by the above three
sensors (inlet sensor and tray 1 delivery sensor). If the sensors detect paper, the finisher
determines that paper jam is not completely removed and sends a jam removal signal to the
host machine once more.
