Using External RDS Encoders

If you prefer to generate RDS data externally instead of utilizing Omnia.9's built-in encoder (or your situation dictates that you
do) this is possible as well.
Unlike earlier versions of Omnia.9 software, our current 3.18.99 release does not need to see pilot on the MPX input when
using an external encoder, instead the pilot is derived from the external 57 kHz signal internally. Thus, if you connect an RDS
encoder to an Omnia.9 input, you no longer need to synchronize the encoder to anything; it's okay if it's free-running at 57
kHz. If your encoder requires a 19 kHz pilot reference to function, set the MPX 2 Output Mode drop-down (found in System
- I/O Options - FM options - MPX) to "19 KHz Generator". If you have a Dual FM unit MPX 2 is already spoken for, and in this
case you may use one of the analog outputs by selecting "19 KHz Generator" in System - I/O Options - Main Outputs - Analog
Out: 19 KHz Generator in the drop-down. Please note you would need to supply an XLR to BNC adapter in order to physically
connect Omnia.9ator in the drop-down.OutRDS encoder's reference input.

Using an RDS Encoder After Omnia.9

You can also use an RDS encoder after Omnia.9, but doing so means losing loudness since Omnia.9's composite clipper cannot
process the fully encoded signal. In this case, Omnia.9's MPX1 Output will feed the encoder's MPX Input while the MPX 2
Output will feed the Pilot Input (Sync) of the external encoder. The output of the encoder will then feed the composite STL or
exciter. In this scenario, the MPX 2 Output control should be set to the MPX Pilot mode.

Omnia.9 will recover sync from external RDS signals automatically. It is not necessary to feed an external pilot.
If your RDS encoder requires a 19 KHz input, you may use the MPX2 Output Mode: 19k Generator option.
