OtoRead™ Instructions for Use - US

Testing children with PE tubes

To test children with PE (Pressure Equalizer) tubes, the AutoStart needs to be disabled. This is
accomplished by first inserting the probe with an appropriate ear tip into the ear canal and obtaining a proper
seal. To disable AutoStart at the main menu select the ear to be tested by holding down the
RIGHT arrow keys for 3 seconds until the green 'TEST' light turns off. Once the key is released, the
TM
OtoRead
will calibrate and test as before.

Test phase

During the testing phase, the OtoRead
generated and shown during the test and can also be reviewed after the test is complete.
TM
The OtoRead
allows the user to select from two options for viewing the results. These can be pre-set in the
Settings.
Testing is complete when the green 'READY' light is illuminated. Both the tester and patient should remain
as still and quiet as possible until the green light turns on. The
progress. No record of an aborted test will be saved in memory.

Storing results

The results of the test are automatically saved in memory as soon as the test is complete. The results will be
saved even if the unit turns off or the batteries are temporarily depleted.
By default (Save L/R Mode), the OtoRead
the same ear will overwrite the existing test.
See the next section Managing Results on page 24 for more information on how the OtoRead
results. See the section Instrument Settings – Save Mode on page 40 for more information on the

save mode options.

The SNR graph view shows the signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) for each
DP test frequency or TE test band.
Each column represents one test frequency (DP) or frequency band
(TE). The height of each column represents the SNR measured.
When a protocol with a Pass criteria has been selected, the user will
see a horizontal white line at the decibel level corresponding to the
SNR required for a PASS. Green bars are a pass. A checkmark in the
color of the measured ear will be displayed on top of these bars.
Red or blue empty squares indicate a non-Pass. The blue or red
indicates the test ear side.
The value graph view shows the absolute emission and noise levels
for each DP test frequency or TE test band.
Blue "x" symbols (left ear) or red "o" symbols (right ear) represent the
absolute emission levels at each DP test frequency or TE frequency
band. Light blue upside-down triangles represent the noise floor at
each DP test frequency or TE frequency band.
The shaded area is the Expanded Boys Town Norms template. See
page 23 for a description of the template.
Refer to pages 33 and 34 for instructions on switching the default
setting of the graphs and for turning on the normative template.
TM
will save only the last test for each ear. Starting a new test for
