11.1 Static Multicast Forward Setup Overview

This chapt er discusses how t o configure forwarding rules based on m ult icast MAC addresses of
devices on your net work.
Use t hese screens t o configure st at ic m ult icast address forwarding.
11.1.1 What You Can Do
Use t he St a t ic M ult ica st For w a r d Se t up screen (
forward specific m ult icast fram es, such as st ream ing or cont rol fram es, t o specific port ( s) .
11.1.2 What You Need To Know
A m ult icast MAC address is t he MAC address of a m em ber of a m ult icast group. A st at ic m ult icast
address is a m ult icast MAC address t hat has been m anually ent ered in t he m ult icast t able. St at ic
m ult icast addresses do not age out . St at ic m ult icast forwarding allows you ( t he adm inist rat or) t o
forward m ult icast fram es t o a m em ber wit hout t he m em ber having t o j oin t he group first .
I f a m ult icast group has no m em bers, t hen t he swit ch will eit her flood t he m ult icast fram es t o all
port s or drop t hem .
