Servicing the Engine Oil
Oil Type: Detergent oil (API service SF, SG, SH, SJ,
or SL)
Crankcase Capacity: with a filter change, 2.1 L (71
oz); without a filter change, 1.8 L (61 oz)
(Figure
42).
Viscosity: See the table below.
Note:
Although 10W-40 engine oil is recommended
for most conditions, you may need to change oil
viscosity to accommodate atmospheric conditions.
Using 20W-50 engine oil in higher ambient
temperatures can reduce oil consumption.
Checking the Engine-Oil Level
Service Interval: Before each use or daily
Note:
Check the oil when the engine is cold.
WARNING
Contact with hot surfaces may cause personal
injury.
Keep hands, feet, face, clothing, and other
body parts away from the muffler and other
hot surfaces.
Important:
Do not overfill the crankcase with oil
because that could damage engine. Do not run
engine with oil below the Low mark because the
engine may be damaged.
