The Main Topgallant Yard:
The main topgallant yard sheets, which also form the topmast yard lifts (one each side), are of 0.25mm natural thread. Again
it is worked backwards. Referring to
(this is simply a length of thread with a block secured in each end which is then 'draped' over the topmast top), passing
between the second and third topmast top crosstrees, around the back of the topmast head and back down the opposite side so
that the blocks are positioned as close as possible below the topmast top crosstrees. The sheet/lift is belayed to the second
(from the front) belaying pin in the main shroud pinrail (b31). It passes up outside the main top and through the 3mm single
block in a span around the topmast head it then passes out and down to the 5mm single lift/sheet block on the end of the
topmast yard, it then leads up towards the 3mm single clueline block on the topgallant yard. A 3mm single block is seized in
the end of the sheet approximately 20mm from the clueline block.
The cluelines (one each side) are of 0.25mm natural thread. The standing end is made fast to the topgallant yard as shown on
Plan Sheet
9. It then reeves through the 3mm single block in the end of the sheet, back up through the 3mm single clueline
block on the topgallant yard, it then leads down and belays to the foremost futtock strop on the main top (b32).
The Fore Yard:
To start, referring to (Fig 007 & 008), assemble one tack, sheet and clue garnet strop assembly by tying together one 3mm
single block, one 5mm single block and securing the 0.75mm natural thread tack, with its toggle, through the loop.
If the boomkins, as constructed and dry fitted on page 30,have not yet been finally fitted it should be done now.
The fore yard cluelines (one each side) are of 0.25mm natural thread. The standing end is made fast to the fore yard as shown
on
Plan Sheet
9. It then reeves through the 3mm single clueline block (of the tack, sheet and clue garnet strop assembly)
positioned approximately 40mm directly below the standing end, back up through the 3mm single block on the fore yard. It
then passes down and is belayed to the foremost deck cleat outboard of the galley (b33).
The fore yard sheets (one each side) are of 0.5mm natural thread. Referring to
copper eyelet on the hull, just aft of the fifth gunport as shown. It then leads up and through the 5mm single sheet block (of the
tack, sheet and clue garnet strop assembly), back down and through the sheave hole in the hull, just forward of the sixth
gunport and is belayed to the cleat on the fifth (from the front) swivel gun pedestal (b34).
The fore yard tacks (one each side) are of 0.5mm natural thread. The standing end should already be secured with a toggle to
the tack, sheet and clue garnet strop assembly. Referring to
on the end of the boomkin and belays to the fourth (aftermost) timberhead (b35).
The Main Yard:
Because the main yard is rigged as a crossjack there are no cluelines, sheets or tacks rigged to it.
The braces are the next stage. Attach all brace blocks as shown on
The Spritsail Yard:
The spritsail braces (one each side) are of 0.25mm natural thread. Referring to
directly to the collar of the fore stay, just above the eye/mouse. It travels down and reeves through the 3mm single blocks held
in a pendant (47mm long) on the end of the spritsail yard. The brace then passes up and through the inboard sheave of the fore
3mm double block held outboard under the fore top, runs aft, along the underside of the top, and through the inboard sheave of
the after 3mm double block held under the fore top. From here it travels down to the deck and is belayed to the foremost
belaying pin in the fore shroud pinrail (b36).
The Fore Yard:
The fore yard braces (one each side) are of 0.25mm natural thread. The standing end is made fast to the collar of the main stay
approximately 23mm above the eye/mouse as shown. From here it leads forward and through the 3mm single block held in a
pendant (60mm long) on the end of the fore yard, back and through the 3mm single block held in a 7mm pendant on the collar
of the main stay, 5mm below the standing end of the brace, it then leads down and is belayed to the foremost deck cleat
outboard of the main mast (b37).
