The pair of fore studding sail booms are each constructed from 100mm lengths of 2mm dowel. The first 50mm should remain
at 2mm while the remaining 50mm should be tapered from 2mm down to 1.25mm.
The studding sail booms are secured to the fore yard through yard rings (painted matt (metal) black) as shown on
and are offset through 45 degrees above and forward of the yard. The inboard pair of rings, each side, consist of 1 x (172)
threaded onto the studding sail boom as shown and 1 x (173) threaded onto the fore yard as shown. These two rings are then
glued directly to one another (they can also be pinned if desired), noting the 45 degree offset. The outermost rings (172) are
located, using 0.70mm brass wire (211), to holes drilled into the end of the fore lower yards, as shown, again noting the 45
degree offset. The outboard end of each studding sail boom should pass through these rings also.
The studding sails can be fitted to the fore yard at a time of your choosing however, the large yard rings will have to be
positioned onto the fore yard prior to fitting of the stop cleats described below.
Main/Fore Topmast Yards:
The main and fore topmast yards are identical and should each be constructed in three sections. The centre sections are from
3x3mm walnut each 38mm in length, they should have the 'corners' sanded flat to form octagonal, 8 sided, lengths. The outer
ends are from 3mm dowel, each 56mm in length and tapered along their length from 3mm down to 2mm. With the three
section for each topmast yard formed they can be pinned and glued together.
Main/Fore Topgallant Yards:
The main and fore topgallant yards are identical and should each be constructed from 112mm lengths of 2mm dowel. They
should be tapered from 2mm at the midpoint, down to 1.5mm at each end.
Spritsail Yard:
The spritsail yard is constructed from a 150mm length of 3mm dowel. Mark the points, 56mm from each end, and the 38mm
length between these points will remain at 3mm. The outboard lengths, each 56mm, will be tapered from 3mm down to 2mm
at the ends.
Yard Fittings:
The sling cleats (103,

shown.
Each yard also requires four stop cleats, one pair on each outboard end as shown. As per the bowsprit, the stop cleats should be
formed from 1.5x1.5mm walnut.
Note: The stop cleats for the fore lower yard should not be fitted until after the yard rings for the fore studding sail booms have
been positioned on the yard as shown on
yard rings without cutting them open.
The studdingsail booms are to be stained walnut and are not painted. All of the yards and yard fittings are to be painted dull
black.
With the masts and yards assembled and referring to
to the masts, yards and tops as shown. Unless otherwise shown, the smaller 3mm blocks should be secured with 0.25mm black
thread, while the 5mm blocks should be secured with 0.5mm black thread.
Note: All of the blocks on the fore yard should be positioned directly on top of or directly underneath the yard, i.e. they are all
'behind' the booms.
Note: No blocks should be painted on any part of the model.
Referring to
Plan Sheet
6, the yard horses are formed from 0.25mm black thread. The outer end is seized to the yard, outside
the stop cleat, the horse then leads inboard and through stirrups of 0.5mm brass wire, where appropriate, and the end is seized
to the yard, outside the sling cleat on the opposite side i.e. port horse to starboard sling cleat and vice versa.
The Spritsail yard horses are constructed from a single length of 0.25mm black thread, the ends are seized directly to the yard,
outside the stop cleats. The centre of the horse is then lashed to the centre of the yard with 0.25mm black thread.
The stirrups are from 0.5mm brass wire, painted dull black, and a small loop should be formed in one end just large enough for
the 0.25mm black thread footrope to pass through. At the locations shown on
the yards to accept the stirrups, taking care not to drill right through the yard. The stirrup can then be trimmed and fitted so that
the loop hangs approximately 15mm below the yard.
& 105) should be identified from the 1.5mm walnut sheet and fitted to their respective yards as
