5.1 Overview

This chapter describes the operation of the Indoor SSPA. It presents a brief overview of
operation and explains how to use the control panel to monitor and control the Indoor SSPA. It
gives procedures for switching the Indoor SSPA on and off, changing operation modes,
displaying and changing settings, conducting routine tests, and options. This chapter also
explains remote operation using a web browser.

5.2 Operational Overview

The operator uses the MENU, SET PWR, TRANSMIT, STANDBY, RESET, ENTER, and
directional keys to navigate and operate the Indoor SSPA. The Vacuum Fluorescent Display
(VFD) provides feedback to the operator.
Note: Before starting the Indoor SSPA for the first time ensure the initial
power-on and checkout procedures have been performed. See the "Initial
Power-On and Checkout" chapter for instructions.
When the circuit breaker on the back is switched on and the button on the front panel's right
hand side is pressed and held for at least one second the Indoor SSPA will conduct a brief self-
test. When the unit is finished initializing the operator switches the Indoor SSPA from
STANDBY mode to TRANSMIT mode, sets the desired output level, and applies the RF input.
The Indoor SSPA amplifies the input signal and outputs it to the operators antenna or switch
system.
During operation, the control panel can be used to control or adjust numerous settings, such as
operating mode or power mode. The front panel can be used to enable features such as
automatic power leveling, or transfer the units control to a remote or computer.
When the Indoor SSPA is ready for shutdown, the user pushes the STANDBY key and waits a
few minutes to allow cooling. Pressing the front panel's left hand side on button then selecting
shutdown will turn off the front panel display. Switching the breaker on the rear panel to the off
position will cut the main input voltage to the Indoor SSPA. It is not necessary to flip the circuit
rear panel circuit breaker unless it is intended to pull the unit from service.
