2. Mount the mating slides (supplied) to the rack cabinet using the supplied hardware.
3. Install the IDU SSPA on the mating slides and securely fasten the front panel to the rack
cabinet rails.
Once the unit is installed on the slides and fastened to the cabinet, the remaining installation
procedures can be completed.
2.6.2

Grounding

Caution: Proper grounding of the IDU SSPA Amplifier to the station ground
buss or to earth ground is necessary for personnel and equipment safety.
The ground post on the IDU SSPA rear panel must be used for this
purpose.
Proper grounding of the IDU SSPA amplifier to the station ground buss or to earth ground is
necessary for personnel and equipment safety. The 10-32 in. threaded ground stud on the
amplifier rear panel is used for grounding. Wire that is #12AWG or larger is recommended to
be used for the grounding cable.
2.6.3

Cooling Considerations

The Indoor SSPA is cooled entirely by forced airflow. Refer to outline drawing, 01040500-00 in
the "Drawings" chapter for clearances required.
The enclosure utilizes several internally mounted DC fans to cool the power supply and
amplifier module. These fans draw the air through the front panel and exhaust air through the
duct located on the rear panel. The exhaust of the Indoor SSPA may be 20°C above ambient
temperature and may dissipate 1200 W of heat.
To prevent excessive heat build-up, it is recommended that the exhaust air be ducted away
from the Indoor SSPA. The optional air duct should be used with a transition from 5" to 8" to
minimize backpressure.
To insure proper operation of the amplifier, there must be at least four inches of clearance on
the end of the unit that has the exhaust ducts.
2.6.4

Electrical Power Connections

The locations of the connectors referred to in this section are shown in Figure 2-1. Electrical
interconnections to the system consist of prime power, ground strap, RF connections, and
external connections including computer serial interface (CIF), discrete monitor, and waveguide
switch interface.
