Introduction

To help with the initial process of configuring your GbE2 Interconnect Switch, the software
includes a Setup utility. The Setup utility prompts you step-by-step to enter all the necessary
information for basic configuration of the GbE2 Interconnect Switch. This chapter describes
how to use the Setup utility and how to change system passwords.

Using the Setup Utility

The Setup utility can be activated manually from the command line interface any time after
login.
You should run the Setup utility the first time you make a serial connection to the console
port on the GbE2 Interconnect Switch. Refer to the "Establishing a Console Connection"
section in Chapter 1.

Information Needed For Setup

Setup requests the following information:
Basic system information
— Date and time
— Whether to use BOOTP or not
— Whether to use Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) or not
Optional configuration for each port
— Speed, duplex, flow control, and negotiation mode (as appropriate)
— Whether to use Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) tagging or not (as appropriate)
Optional configuration for each VLAN
— Name of VLAN
— Which ports are included in the VLAN
