ELECTRIC
STARTER
INSTALLATION
Install
the starter
motor
with the four mounting
bolts.
Connect
the starter cable
to
the
motor and
tighten the nut.
Install
the side spacer, starter drive
and driven sprockets
and
chain (page 10-8).
STARTER RELAY SWITCH
OPERATION INSPECTION
Remove
the
right
side cover (page
2 -
2
).
Shift
the transmission
into neutral.
Turn
the
ignition
switch
ON
and
depress
the
starter
switch
button.
The
coil
is
normal
if
the
starter relay
switch
clicks.
If
the switch
"CLICK"
is
not heard. Inspect the relay switch
using the
procedure below.
GROUND
LINE
INSPECTION
Disconnect the
relay
connector.
Check
for
continuity between
the
Green/Red
wire and
ground.
If
there
is
continuity
when
the transmission
is in
neutral or
when
the
dutch
is
disengaged and the
side stand switch
is
up.
the
ground
circuit is
normal
(In
neutral,
there
is
a slight
resistance
due
to
the diode).
VOLTAGE
INSPECTION
Connect the
starter relay
switch connecior.
Shift
the transmission
into neutral.
Measure the voltage between
the
Yellow/Red wire
() and
ground
at
the
starter relay
switch connector.
There should be battery voltage only
when
the
starter
switch button
Is
depressed
with the
ignition
switch
is
ON.
