NOTE
•
Check
cylinder
compression end check
lhat
the spark
plugs are installed correctly.
Remove
the
fuel
tank (page
2-3).
Remove
the
ignition
control
module
(ICM)
and
disconnect
the
2P connector from
the
ICM.
Connect the
peak
voltage
adapter or imrie tester
probes
to
the connector terminals
of
the
exciter
coil
side.
TOOLS
Imrie diagnostic tester
(model
625) or
Peak voltage adapter

available digital
multimeter (impedance 10
MfJ/DCV minimum)
CONNECTION:
Black/Rad
terminal

- Body ground

Crank
the
engine
with the
starter
motor and
read the
peak
voltage.

•
A
void touching
the
spark plugs
and
tetter
probes
to
prevent
elec-
tric
shock.
If
the peak voltage
measured
at
ICM connector
is
abnormal,
disconnect the exciter
Black/Red connector
and connect
the
tester
probes
to
the Black/Red
connector
and Body
ground.
In
the
same
manner
as
at
the
ICM connector,
measure
the
peak
voltage
and compare
it
to the voltage
measured
at
the
ICM connector.
•
If
the
peak
voltage
measured
at
the
ICM
is
abnormal and
tho
one measured
at
the
exciter coil
is
normal, the wire
harness has an open
circuit
or loose connection.
•
If
both peak
voltages
measure
are
abnormal, check each
item
in
the troubleshooting chart
If
all
items
are
normal,
the
exciter coil
Is
faulty.
See section 10
for
alternator
replacement.
Reinstall
the
removed
parts
in
tho reverse order of
removal
