Figure 11-39 describes a Zoning / Cabling diagram of connections between the host and IBM
Flex System V7000 Storage Node.
Figure 11-39 SAN Zoning Diagram
Create a Host / IBM Flex System V7000 Storage Node for each server:
Zone Server 1 port A (RED) with all node port 1s.
Zone Server 1 port B (BLUE) with all node port 2s.
Zone Server 2 port A (RED) with all node port 3s.
Zone Server 2 port B (BLUE) with all node port 4s.
SAN and zoning configuration rules
The following rules apply:
1. If possible, make the Alias using WWPNs (soft zoning).
2. When you connect internal switches to an external SAN, to optimize bandwidth and for the
best high availability, use trunking (also known as port channel).
3. Each Flex System V7000 Storage Node node canister must have a path to the same set of
worldwide port names (WWPNs) for each storage system.
4. IBM Flex System V7000 Storage Node supports a maximum of 4 Fabrics with FC ports
plus 2 Fabrics with FCoE ports.
5. For optimal performance, use zone 1 HBA compute node port with two node canister ports
(one on each node canister).
6. Note that eight paths between compute node host and volumes are the maximum
permitted, but for performance reasons, restrict this to four paths.
