Capture Data, Status,
And Handshake Lines
The HP 10342B bus preprocessor
captures bus activity and provides
inverse assembly for RS-232C/V .24,
RS-449 *, and HP-IB** buses. This bus
analysis tool combines the power of a
logic analyzer with the convenience of a
preprocessor, yielding a truly easy-to-
use instrument .
Simply select the appropriate
operating modes from the front of the
HP 10342B, press run on your logic
analyzer, and you will obtain a listing of
your bus activity . The inverse assembler
supplied with the HP 10342B configures
* Support both RS-422A (balanced) and
RS-423A (unbalanced) electrical
implementations.
** Hewlett-Packard's implementation of
IEEE-488 (1978) .
The HP 10342B bus preprocessor connects to the HP 10269B general-purpose probe
non-intrusive monitoring of HP-IB, RS-232CIV .24, and RS-449.
interface for direct and
and assigns labels to the lines used in
the logic analyzer .
The HP 10342B, which is compatible
with all HP 1630A/D/G and
HP 1631A/D logic analyzers, uses the
timing analyzer to display the condition
of the handshake lines when a character
is received . Easy access to an
oscilloscope for high-resolution timing
measurements can be made by
connecting any of the input signal lines
to one of the three probe sockets located
on the front panel of the HP 10342B .
The HP 1631A/D's analog inputs can
digitize two signals at 200
megasamples/second for 5-ns timing
resolution measurements . Time-consuming
transactions can be easily identified
with the time-histogram mode of the
HP 1630A/D/G and HP 1631A/D
logic analyzers . Time-tagging is
provided with the HP 1630G to
measure the actual time between states.
The HP 10342B Bus
Preprocessor Provides:
Asynchronous protocol
- Data rates from 50 to 19 .2k bits per
second
- Even, odd, or no parity
- Six-bit transcode, seven-bit or
eight-bit ASCII, eight-bit EBCDIC
- 1, 1 .5, or 2 stop bits
Synchronous protocol
- Data rates to 72k bits per second
- Bit protocol (SDLC, HDLC,
BSC, etc.)
- Character protocol (six, seven, and
eight bit)
" HP-IB
- Eight-bit parallel ASCII
- Supports all eight status bits
Inverse Assembly
The HP 10342B is supplied with a
3-1/2 inch disc inverse assembler . The
inverse assembler converts the data and
status into standard text for easy
interpretation .
In the HP-IB mode, all data,
handshake, and status lines are
monitored and states displayed . For
RS-232C/V .24 and RS-449, data and
five handshake lines are monitored and
displayed . Four of the handshake lines
are synchronous with the serial
controller . The fifth, the carrier detect,
is asynchronous and is sampled each
time a character is sent to the analyzer.
Labels and logic analyzer
configurations are also provided with the
inverse assembler. This simplifies
operation so you spend your time
making measurements rather than
manually configuring the analyzer .
