Troubleshooting and Caring for the Printer

Detailed Symptom:
Items to be Checked Beforehand:
1. Program is being started in the System Unit (controller). (Reset Signal is being received.)
2. The IRT/INIT (-Reset Signal) pin of the printer short-circuits the Signal Ground.

Description of Phenomenon
All the symptoms shown here are possible errors that may be detected in the BAT, or
trouble is occurring at the top of the BAT routine.
Points in Analyzing the Trouble
The Reset Signal Pin of the Printer Cable may vary depending on the system. How-
ever, it is always a negative (-) active signal, and if it is short-circuited to the ground
line, the Reset status is obtained.
The Reset Signal Pin is Pin 31 (-INIT).
The activation-guarantee voltage range in a logic circuit is generally from 4.75V DC to
5.25V DC. If going out of this range, activation becomes unstable and unknown
symptoms may appear.
Overviewing past examples, no problems appeared in logic circuits with a low voltage.
However, in many cases intermittent trouble occurred in the drive system.
5V DC power has a sufficient capacity. Also, if any circuit current exceeds specified
amperage flows, a protective circuit is designed to be activated to stop the excessive
current. Therefore, if this voltage is lowered, the cause is often in the Power Circuit it-
self.
