YCC-S (Yamaha Chip Controlled-Shift) SYSTEM
EAS1MD1005
MCU (motor control unit) SELF-DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION
The MCU (motor control unit) is equipped with a self-diagnostic function in order to ensure that the
YCC-S system is operating normally. If this function detects a malfunction in the YCC-S system, it im-
mediately operates the system under substitute characteristics and lights the YCC-S system warning
light to alert the rider that a malfunction has occurred in the system. Once a malfunction has been de-
tected, a fault code is stored in the memory of the MCU (motor control unit). After the engine has been
stopped, the fault code number appears on the multi-function meter right display. If there is more than
one fault code number, the numbers are displayed in numerical order starting with the lowest number.
Once a fault code has been displayed, it remains stored in the memory of the MCU (motor control unit)
until it is deleted.
Checking the shift down indicator light, stop mode function indicator light, and YCC-S system
warning light
The shift down indicator light, stop mode function indicator light, and YCC-S system warning light come
on for 3.0 seconds after the main switch has been turned to "ON". If the shift down indicator light, stop
mode function indicator light, and YCC-S system warning light does not come on under this condition,
the lights (LED) may be defective.
MCU detects an abnormal signal from a sensor
If the MCU (motor control unit) detects an abnormal signal from a sensor while the vehicle is being driv-
en, the MCU (motor control unit) illuminates the YCC-S system warning light and provides the YCC-S
system with alternate operating instructions that are appropriate for the type of malfunction.
When an abnormal signal is received from a sensor, the MCU (motor control unit) processes the spec-
ified values that are programmed for each sensor in order to provide the YCC-S system with alternate
operating instructions that enable the system to continue operating or stop operating, depending on the
conditions.
