DISPOSING OF A REAR SHOCK ABSORBER

1. Gas pressure must be released before dis-
posing of a rear shock absorber. To release
the gas pressure, drill a 2–3 mm (0.08–0.12
in) hole through the rear shock absorber at a
point 15.0 mm (0.59 in) from its end as
shown.

Wear eye protection to prevent eye damage
from released gas or metal chips.

REMOVING THE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER
ASSEMBLY
1. Stand the vehicle on a level surface.

Securely support the vehicle so that there is
no danger of it falling over.
TIP
Place the vehicle on a suitable stand so that the
rear wheel is elevated.
2. Remove:
• Rear shock absorber assembly lower bolt "1"
• Connecting arms
TIP
Place the vehicle on a suitable stand so that the
rear of the vehicle is elevated.
3. Remove:
• Rear shock absorber assembly upper bolt "1"

• Spacer "2"
• Rear shock absorber assembly
TIP
Partially pull out the rear shock absorber assem-
bly upper bolt, slide the spacer "2" towards the
bolt head to create some clearance between the
bolt and the frame, and then remove the bolt
completely.

CHECKING THE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER
ASSEMBLY
1. Check:
• Rear shock absorber rod
Bends/damage → Replace the rear shock
absorber assembly.
• Rear shock absorber
Gas leaks/oil leaks → Replace the rear shock
absorber assembly.
• Spring
Damage/wear → Replace the rear shock ab-
sorber assembly.
• Bushing
Damage/wear → Replace the rear shock ab-
sorber assembly.
• Spacer
Damage/scratches → Replace.
• Gas cylinder
Damage/gas leaks → Replace the rear shock
absorber assembly.
• Bolts
Bends/damage/wear → Replace.

CHECKING THE CONNECTING ARM AND
RELAY ARM
1. Check:
• Connecting arms
• Relay arm
Damage/wear → Replace.
2. Check:
• Bearings
• Oil seals
Damage/pitting → Replace.
