CYLINDER HEAD/VALVE
Check the cylinder head cover gasket for damage or
deterioration.
NOTE:
Clean the gasket before applying sealant.
Apply sealant to the cylinder head cover gasket.
Install the cylinder head cover.
TORQUE:
8-12
N·m
(0.8-1.2
kg-m,
6-9
ft-Ib)
I nstall the removed part in the reverse order of
removal.
CYLINDER COMPRESSION
Warm up the engine.
Stop the engine, then disconnect the spark plug
caps and remove the spark plugs.
I nsert the compression gauge.
Open the throttle all the way and crank the engine
with the starter motor.
NOTE:
Crank the engine until the gauge reading stops
rising.
The
maximum
reading
is
usually
reached within
4-7
seconds.

If compression is low, check for the following:
Improper valve clearance

leaky valves
-
leaking cylinder head gasket
- Worn piston/ring/cylinder
If compression is high, it indicates that carbon
deposits have accumulated on the combustion
chamber and/or the piston crown.
