Connect the Honda PGM Tester to the data link
connector (DTC), and check for DTC'S. lf a DTC is
present, diagnose and repair the cause before
i n s p e c t i n g t h e i g n i t i o n t i m i n g .
Startthe engine. Hold the engine at 3,000 rpm with
no load (in Neutral) until the radiator fan comes on,
then let it idle.
C h e c k t h e i d l e s p e e d ( s e e p a g e 1 1 - 1 3 8 ) .
Follow the tester's prompts in the "SCS" menu
{see the tester operator's manual),
Connect the timing light to the service loop.

6. Point the light toward the pointer (A) on the cam
c h a i n c a s e . C h e c k t h e i g n i t i o n t i m i n g u n d e r n o l o a d
conditions: headlights, blower fan. rear window
defogger, and air conditioner are not operaling. lf
the ignition timing differs from the specification,
and there are no engine control module {ECM)DTcs,
r e p l a c e t h e E C M ( s e e p a g e 1 1 - 4 )

7. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
D i s c o n n e c t t h e H o n d a P G M T e s t e r a n d t h e t i m i n g
l i g h t .
