ldle Speed lnspection
NOTE:
' Leave the idle air control (lAC) valve connecled.
. Before checking the idle speed, check these items:
- T h e m a l f u n c t i o n i n d i c a t o r l a m p ( M l L ) h a s n o t b e e n
reported on.
- l g n i t i o n t i m i n g
- S p a r k p l u g s
- A i r c l e a n e r
- PCV system
. P u l l t h e p a r k i n g b r a k e l e v e r u p . S t a r t t h e e n g i n e , a n d
make sure the headlights are off.
1. Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP)
canister purge valve 2P connector.
2. Connect a tachometer (A)to the test tachometer
connector (B), or connect the Honda PGM Tester (C)
or an OBD ll scan tool to the data link connector
(DLC) (D) located under the driver's side of the
dashboard.

Start the engine. Hold the engine at 3,000 rpm with
n o l o a d ( i n n e u t r a l ) u n t i l t h e r a d i a t o r f a n c o m e s o n ,
t h e n l e t i t i d l e .
Check the idle speed with no-load conditions;
headlights, blower fan, radiator fan, and air
conditioner off.
ldle speed should be: 750 t 50 rpm
Let the engine idle for 1 minute with the heater fan
switch on Hl and air conditioner on, then check the
i d l e s p e e d .
ldle speed should be: 750 t 50 rpm
NOTE: lf the idle speed is not wilhin specification,
go to the Symptom Troubleshooting Index,
Reconnect the EVAP canister purge valve 2P
connector.
