8.5.1.1 Disabling an Interface
To disable an interface, execute the "SHUTDOWN" command. Doing this prevents the interface
from sending and receiving traffic at the same time as dropping its physical layer.
8.5.2 Ethernet Subinterface
The Ethernet subinterface is used to execute an operation with VLAN traffic. Enable the VLAN traffic and
indicate that VLAN is going to use this subinterface.
Creating a VLAN:
network ethernet0/0.1
encapsulation dot1q 101
exit
In this case, the Ethernet0/0 subinterface 1 is going to operate with VLAN 101.

8.6

VLAN

The steps to configure a VLAN are as follows:
1. Enable the VLAN facility.
2. Associate a VLAN to a SWITCH port.
Associate this VLAN to the router's internal port.

4. At the input you can configure the default VLAN associated to the port. Consequently if an
untagged packet is received (i.e. without a VLAN identifier) it's classified as belonging to the default
VLAN. The command used to configure the default VLAN is TAG-DEFAULT.
5. You can configure which ports are members for each VLAN through the VLAN command. The
forwarding process selects all those VLAN port members where the input packet has been
classified, as candidate ports to forward the packet to.
6. In the input, you can configure port behavior with respect to packets received with a VLAN identifier
where the port is not a member. If the ingress filter is enabled, through the INGRESS-FILTER
