There is a serial access port (EIA-232) located on the rear panel of the HRDVS unit where
you can hook up a modem or a PC. There is also a PCMCIA slot where you can use a
PCMCIA modem card or an Ethernet card. If you will be using either of these ports, you first
need to enable the remote access option. If you do not plan to use it, turning it off will give
you extra protection from unauthorized access.
If you plan to use remote access, you need to specify the connection method you plan to
use:
A 9-pin EIA-232 serial port to use a regular external modem or a null modem cable
connection to your PC.
A PC card to use a PCMCIA serial modem or a PCMCIA Ethernet card.

Use the following table to configure remote access.
Description
Enable MTU 1100x to limit the Maximum Transmission Unit to 1100 bytes.
Enable remote access if you want to control the HRDVS remotely.
Enable to use the Remote Access Software (RAS) to play back clips on your PC and
to archive clips while the unit is recording clips to the local drive.
Note
When you enable dualstream mode on the HRDVS1 you are only able to
record a maximum of 10 fps. All previously set recording rates that were
higher than 10 fps are automatically reset to 10 fps.
You need to enter a unique, fixed IP address for each HRDVS unit.
For example, if you have one HRDVS you can use the default value shown on
Figure
6-1. If you have two HRDVS units, you can change the value in the last box
from 9 to 8. Note that the IP address you set here must be different from the IP
address used by any PC you have connected to your network.
