Operating a copy group

This section explains how to perform operations on a copy group.

Preparing to Use a Copy Group

Perform the following preparations before using a copy group:
1. Use the YKLOAD command to load the copy group definition parameters.
2. Use the YKQUERY or YKEWAIT command to acquire the copy group status.

Starting Backup Operations

To start backup operation, first execute the YKMAKE command to create a copy group. When the
YKMAKE command is executed, the copy group is moved to the DUPLEX status, meaning that data
is kept on the secondary site S-VOL (redundant status). The manner in which the contents of the
primary site P-VOL are copied to the secondary site S-VOL depends on the selected copy type. For
details about the behavior of each copy type, see the storage system documentation.

Suspending a Copy Group

During operation, copy pairs are usually always in the DUPLEX status, but sometimes when backups
are needed, copying is temporarily cancelled (suspended), and the data contents on the S-VOL
need to be fixed for a certain period. To suspend a copy group, execute the YKSUSPND command.
When the YKSUSPND command is executed, the copy group is moved to the suspend status.

Resynchronizing a Copy Group

To move a copy group in the suspend status back to the DUPLEX status, execute the YKRESYNC
command.

Displaying the Status of a Copy Group

You can check the transitions of copy pair statuses within a copy group that are caused by a series
of copy group operations. To display the status of a copy group, use the YKQUERY command and
the YKEWAIT command.
YKQUERY command: Acquires the copy pair status.
YKEWAIT command: Monitors the copy pair status transitions, waiting for the specified status.
Even when a copy group operation command has been executed, it does not necessarily mean
that copy pairs in all the volumes are completely formed or released. Make sure you check whether
the copy pair has been formed or released, by using the YKQUERY command or YKEWAIT
command.
NOTE: The YKEWAIT command cannot check the volume status until the status has changed.
When the YKEWAIT command is executed, it might take some time to respond, depending on the
volume status.
