2.1.4 Main Control Circuit

The main control circuit of the EPL-N1600 is the C258MAIN Board and
it consists of two sections: the main control circuitry and the engine
control circuitry (MCU). The following tables describe the main
components of each section.

Operating Principles
Operation
A RISC CPU running at 150MHz. Controls
the board's main control section.
Controls the following:
• Memory access (RAM/ROM)
• DMA (I/O, Video)
Controls the following:
• External interfaces
• Communication with the operation panel
• Interrupts
Controls the following:
• Video data generation
• RIT/PGI operation
• Video interface (communication with the
engine control section)
Two 16Mbit ((16) modules. Serve as the
system's standard memory.
8Mbit mask ROM. Stores font dataand IPL.
Either C215PROG (Flash ROM version) or
C215PROG-B (Mask-ROM version) ROM-
DIMM module is installed in ROM-DIMM
socket CN5.
16Kbit EEPROM which saves printer
configurations and status.
Operation
Engine control CPU. Controls engine
components (implements printing) in
accordance with video data from the main
control section.
Controls the video interface with the main
control section. Also controls EEPROM.
Capacity is 16Kbit. Stores setup parameters
related to engine control.
