Bearing Lubrication

Many of the bearing surfaces on the proportioner are
permanently lubricated or are self lubricating. There
are four main bearings (497) on the lever arm that
must be lubricated at a regular interval. The lubrica-
tion interval is every six months in a single shift opera-
tion.
Lubricate the bearings with an Industrial Grade 1,
Heavy Duty, Extreme Pressure, Lithium Soap Grease
(Graco Part Number 110293 or equivalent).
1. Follow the Pressure Relief Procedure on page 20.
2. Turn off the main air valve.
3. Remove the twenty hex bolts (458) with a 13 mm
wrench or socket. See Fig. 98.
4. Remove the four sheet metal covers (404, 406,
403) from the front and back of the proportioner.
The right rear cover may contain a sensor
attached to a cable. Do not remove the sensor, but
carefully set the cover to the side without straining
or damaging the sensor or cable.
5. The four main bearings (497) are now exposed.
Grease the center of all four bearings. One or two
squirts (2–3 cc) will be sufficient.
6. Reinstall the covers (404, 406, 403) and the bolts
(458) before starting the machine. The covers are
safety guards and must be in place when the
proportioner is in operation.
Care of the System

Air Lubrication

The lubricator meters oil into the moving air stream to
lubricate air-operated motors. A manual adjustment in
the housing sets the oil drip rate into the air stream,
which can be monitored through a sight glass on most
lubricators. One to two drops per minute is a common
rate. Use Graco motor oil, Part No. 202659. Always
relieve the system pressure before removing the
lubricator bowl for any reason. Refer to the Air Filter
and Air Lubricator manual 308169 for service and
repair.
